Formation flying is defined as the coordinated flight of two or more aircraft. Boeing and NASA conducted this formation flight to test the atmospheric impact of the sustainable aviation fuel SAF.

NASA satellites captured images of the smoke trail formation as part of the tests.

Through these tests, researchers want to understand how advanced fuels, engine combustion chamber designs and other technologies can reduce atmospheric warming.
